The wild-eyed, but nevertheless ridiculous, daily life of a group of cops who, in an unusually surreal Los Angeles, do everything possible to misbehave, giving full rein to their worst instincts and being the first to break the law. When somebody dies (a neighbor who was killed by mistake), the situation seems to be out of control. What with blackmail, improbable alliances and bizarre situations, the ending could only be funny. The soundtrack is by the king of electronic music, Mr Oizo, the alter ego of director Quentin Dupieux.

Quentin Dupieux

(Paris, France, 1974), better known as Mr Oizo, is a world-famous DJ and producer, known for his hit Flat Beat, which originated from his collaboration with Levi’s, for which he shot a series of popular ads in 1999. He debuted as a director with the medium-length movie Nonfilm (2002), which revealed his particular taste for the absurd and the nonsense that also characterized his next movies, Steak (2007) and above all Rubber (2010), presented at the Semaine de la critique in Cannes. His feature film Wrong (2012) participated at the 2012 Torino Film Festival. One of the most appreciated comic directors, his films premiered in Cannes (Le Daim, 2019, Fumer fait tousser, 2022), Venezia (Mandibules, 2020), and Berlin (Incroyable mais vrai, 2022).

Ratz (TV series)

French-Canadian animated comedy adventure television series

Ratz is a French-Canadian animated comedyadventure television series created by Richard Zielenkiewicz. The show stars two rats, Rapido and Razmo, aboard the S.S. Wanderer, a cheese-filled ship without an actual destination. The focus of the series is on the adventures of the two rats, including guarding the cheese, interacting with other stowaways and various ill-fated encounters with the crew. The rats themselves live in the hull of the ship in a lavish two-bedroom apartment.

The French version features the voices of the comedy duoÉric et Ramzy, while the English version features the voices of Terrence Scammell as Rapido and Rick Jones as Razmo.

The show premiered its first episode, "Cheese Connection" on March 7, 2003, on Teletoon, and the series finale episode, "Tomo the Sumo" aired on November 11, 2003. A previously unaired episode, "The Little Orphan", premiered on January 17, 2004. It can be streamed online since March 25, 2020 on Netflix, released in French first.

Ratz was originally titled Rapido (in an unaired pilot) and featured a chunkier animation style. Also of interest is the pure blend of traditional animation and 3D animation, and the eclectic soundtrack by Hervé Lavandier.

Plot

Ratz mainly focuses on a duo of the eponymous rats, Rapido and Razmo, whose contrasting personalities often have them butt heads with each other. The only thing they both share is their love of cheese and live on board the S.S. Wanderer for that very reason. As they have occasional encounters with the ship's crewmates, or even get involved, the duo have all sorts of wacky misadventures. Some of the episodes also involve the rats having to deal with new one-shot characters.

Characters

The series' titular duo are composed of two pitch-black rats, Rapido and Razmo, wearing helmets (with goggles attached) and outfits akin to a moder

    Early life

Quentin Dupieux was born on 14 April 1974 in Paris. At the age of 18, he found a camera and started taking photographs. At the age of 19, while making one of his first short films, he added a soundtrack to the movie by using music from a record. However, when a TV channel wanted to buy the film, he realized they needed to have the rights to the music. This led to Dupieux buying a synthesizer so that he could redo the music for his film. A few years later, he discovered the house music scene and started making music. In 1997, Laurent Garnier of the record label FCom bought a car from Dupieux's father. Garnier then found out about his talents and let him direct the music video for his song "Flashback". Dupieux was subsequently signed to FCom, which saw the release of his first EP, #1.
