When brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb decided to form the Bee Gees, they couldn't have imagined how successful they would become.

At the time, the young trio had just moved from Manchester to Queensland, Australia, where they bagged their first chart success with the 1966 single 'Spicks and Specks', and began their journey to international stardom.

That same year, Barry had married his first wife, Maureen Bates, when he was just 19. The pair lived together for a short time, but divorced in July 1970.

Fast forward two months – and Barry had tied the knot with his now-wife, Linda Gray.

1967: Barry Gibb meets former Miss Edinburgh, Linda Gray

Barry Gibb first met Linda Gray on the set of Top of the Pops in London.

The Bee Gee told The Sun that there was an instant connection with the former Miss Edinburgh when he set eyes on her in 1967 on the television set.

"She was the hostess for one week, the week Massachusetts was No1. And she’d never heard of it," the singer recalled.

"We just saw each other across the room and something happened."

Barry went on to reveal the pair had a steamier moment in a nearby studio – on the set of Doctor Who.

"And, um, we had a bit of a cuddle in Doctor Who’s Tardis, surrounded by Daleks!"

Gibb further gushed about meeting his wife on Piers Morgan's Life Stories in 2017.

Gibb and Gray crossed paths on the British music TV show Top of the Pops in September 1967.

Gray had just won the title of Miss Edinburgh and was hosting the show the week the Bees Gees’ first hit song “Massachusetts” was No. 1 on the charts, and the band was set to perform, Gibb told The Sun in 2021. “We just saw each other across the room and something happened,” he said.

Gray also remembers it being as spontaneous. She recounted their meeting in a documentary clip on Gibb’s episode of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories in 2017. “The girls I was with, they said, ‘Oh my god, that guy is so handsome. He’s looking at you! Who Was Barry Gibb?

Barry Gibb formed a group called the Bee Gees with his brothers Maurice and Robin. The trio had their first hit in 1967. They became even more famous in the 1970s with their stirring ballads and catchy dance songs. Gibb also worked with other artists, including Kenny Rogers and Barbra Streisand. The Bee Gees ended in 2003, but Gibb continues to perform today.

Early Success

The oldest son of a bandleader, Barry Gibb grew up surrounded by music. He, along with his younger twin brothers Robin and Maurice, became one of the top pop music acts of the 1970s. The trio started performing together as children. Their professional career took off after the family moved to Australia in late 1958 after the birth of their youngest brother, Andy.
