Ronald James "Ronnie" Kray (24 October 20 March ) and Reginald "Reggie" Kray (24 October 1 October ) were English gangsters or organised crime figures and identical twin brothers from Haggerston who were prominent from the late s until their arrest in
Their gang, known as the Firm, was based in Bethnal Green, where the Kray twins lived. They were involved in murder, armed robbery, arson, protection rackets, gambling and assaults. At their peak in the s, they gained a certain measure of celebrity status by mixing with prominent members of London society, being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on television.
The Krays were arrested on 8 May and convicted in as a result of the efforts of detectives led by Detective SuperintendentLeonard "Nipper" Read. Each was sentenced to life imprisonment. Ronnie, upon being certified insane, was committed to Broadmoor Hospital in and remained there until his death on 17 March from a heart attack; Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds in August , five weeks before he died of cancer.

La zona de estudio al parecer vivió su auge durante el periodo Clásic film by Brian Helgeland Legend is a biographicaldrama film written and directed by Brian Helgeland, adapted from John Pearson's book The Profession of Violence: The Rise and Fall of the Kray Twins. The film follows the Kray twins' career and relationship together through their convictions for murder and sentencing to life imprisonment in Tom Hardy, Emily Browning, David Thewlis and Christopher Eccleston star with Colin Morgan, Chazz Palminteri, Paul Bettany, Tara Fitzgerald, Taron Egerton, and the singer Duffy in supporting roles. In the s, Reggie Kray is a former boxer who has become an important part of the criminal underground in London. His twin brother Ron is locked in a psychiatric hospital and being treated for paranoid schizophrenia. Reggie uses threats to obtain the premature release of his brother. The twins unite their efforts to control a large part of London's criminal underworld, made easier when the head of the south London Richardson Gang (a.k.a. the Torture Gang) is imprisoned. One of their first efforts is to muscle in on the control of a local nightclub, using extortion and brutal violence. Reg enters into a relationship with Frances, his driver's sister, whom he eventually marries. When he is imprisoned for a previous criminal conviction, which he cannot evade, she makes him swear that he will leave his criminal life behind. He never honours this oath because of the allure of crime. While Reg is in prison, Ron's mental instability and violent temperament result in severe financial setbacks at the nightclub. It is almost forced to close after Ron scares away most of the customers. On the first night after Reg's release from prison, the brothers have an all-out fist fight, but they manage to patch things up, at least partially. The reputation of the brothers has spread to the United States. They are approached by Angelo Bruno of the Philadelphia crime f ‘This boy has been beaten by beasts’ are the first words in Krays: the Final Word, spoken by a Thames Court magistrate investigating the assault on a boy called Roy Harvey who was allegedly beaten with chains by the Kray Twins and their friend Patrick Aucott in Mare Street, Hackney. This was the first time the Krays were to make an appearance in court records but the case was eventually dropped. As the author points out in this thorough examination of the history of the Krays, fact and legend have become thoroughly entangled and often ‘the tendency has been…’When the legend becomes fact, print the legend’”. This book attempts to separate the factual grain from the legendary chaff. The author does not make many attempts to explain the behaviour of the infamous brothers. However, he does pull together many different strands of their story to create a readable and convincing narrative with an eye for a telling detail. The twins were born in Hoxton in , Reggie a few minutes older. They were identical as children and young men, but once they gave up boxing, Ronnie put on weight. The boys were of Jewish and Romany descent and had an older brother, Charlie, who was seven years their senior and always seen as the least frightening of the Krays. In between there had been a sister, Violet, who died shortly after being born prematurely, possibly because her father, Charles Kray beat her mother Violet in the last stages of pregnancy. One imagines that their background had a huge influence on the twins, however their mother Violet, like most of the women associated with the Krays, remains a rather shadowy figure in this book. Her father, Johnny ‘Cannonball’ Lee, had been a well-known boxer and entertainer, perhaps one reason why the Twins sought notoriety as well as cash. The family moved from Hoxton to Vallance Road (a two-up two-down Victorian cottage in Bethnal Green, down the road from Whitechapel tube station) before the Second Legend ( film)
