Etymology of McCole

What does the name McCole mean?

On the western coast of Scotland and on the Hebrides islands the McCole family was born among the ancient Dalriadan clans. Their name comes from the Gaelic surname of Scottish origin, which means son of the battle chief.

Saint Gall (550?-645?), originally named Cellach or Caillech, was abbot and the apostle of the Suevi and the Alemanni, and appears to have been the son of Cethernach, an Irishman of noble lineage, of the sept of Hy-Cennsealach, his mother being, it is asserted, a queen of Hungary. 1

The MacGall variant was later derived from the Gaelic Mac goill, or Mac an ghoill, 'stranger's son,' 'Lowlander.' 2

The MacCall variant was from the Gaelic MacCathail, 'son of Cathal,' "the M'Calls of Guffokland were an old Nithsdale family. Robert M'Kawele, was Lord of Karsnelohe, c. 1370-1380." 2

Early Origins of the McCole family

The surname McCole was first found in Argyllshire (Gaelic erra Ghaidheal), the region of western Scotland corresponding roughly with the ancient Kingdom of Dál Riata, in the Strathclyde region of Scotland, now part of the Council Area of Argyll and Bute, where they held a family seat from early times and their first records appeared on the census rolls taken by the early Kings of Britain to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects.

The Maccalls of Dumfriesshire were settled there as early as 1500, "and are said to be descended from the Macaulays. John M'Call is recorded in Cumbray, 1583 (Hunter, p. 31). Matthew McCall in Maybole, charged with reset of rebels in 1607, appears a few days later as McEall (RPC., XIV p. 507). Quintigern Makcall, bailie of Edinburgh, 1610." 2

A completely holographic zoo has opened in Texas: CalledZoocade, it's a zoo experience but without animals that has opened its first location in the U.S. in Austin.

One ofTime Magazine's "Best Inventions of 2023," Zoocade was previously only available in Australia, China, and Canada.

"At the hologram zoo you don’t just see an elephant – you see a herd of elephants that stampedes toward you and then runs through you," says the write-up. "What’s more, it’s a way for the public to see and learn about wildlife that doesn’t involve keeping animals captive."

Guests can put on 3D glasses and peruse Zoocade's 60-foot holographic tunnel, where they'll come face-to-face with hippos, giraffes, and even long-extinct prehistoric animals. Smaller groups of four to five can also experience Zoocade's smaller holographic rooms for a closer look at some of the animals.

Aside from lifelike animal encounters and holographic photos, Zoocade also includes an arcade with more than 30 games, a gift shop, and more.

It's no secret that unless it's a rescue or rehabilitation zoo, most zoos are not doing wildlife any favors. At best they're stressful for animals that need much more space; at worst they're neglectful or cruel.

So, perhaps not only is a holographic zoo a fun family-friendly use of our advancing technology, but it's also a useful one. As long as it doesn't go the way of Ray Bradbury's The Veldt, of course.

Zoocade comes to Austin by way of local entrepreneur Reva Enzminger. As soon as she learned about this award-winning tech, she jumped on a plane to Australia to experience it for herself and was amazed by its capabilities. Since Austin is a growing tech hub, she knew it would be a great fit.

Child star Skye McCole Bartusiak died from an accidental drug overdose possibly linked to huffing, new toxicology test results suggest.

Best known for her role as Mel Gibson’s 7-year-old daughter in the 2000 film “The Patriot,” the bubbly blond had the pain killer Vicodin in her system along with the refrigerant difluoroethane and the muscle relaxer carisoprodol when she died July 19, Texas authorities confirmed.

Difluoroethane is a chemical refrigerant found in products such as Dust-Off. Users sniff it to get a temporary high.

Bartusiak was 21 when she was found unresponsive in a garage apartment at her parents’ house in Houston.

Her mom previously suggested her death might have been caused by epileptic seizures.

“We think she had a seizure and choked and nobody was there,” mom Helen Bartusiak previously told CNN.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences released the cause of death, calling it an overdose from the combined toxic cocktail. A full autopsy report is still pending.

Bartusiak, who also appeared in “The Cider House Rules” in 1999, recently produced and appeared in a number of short movies.

After several high-profile roles on the big screen, she appeared on network television shows like “House,” “24” and “Lost.”
