Dutch vocal trance music group

4 Strings is a Dutch vocal trance group. The group was founded by Carlo Resoort and Jan De Vos.

Their biggest success came with the track "Take Me Away (Into the Night)", which peaked at number 15 in the UK Singles Chart in May 2002. In total, 4 Strings had five different singles in the UK chart between December 2000 and July 2004.

Vanessa van Hemert was originally portrayed as the main vocalist of the group. However, it was revealed on 5 April 2019 that Susanne Teutenberg was actually the vocalist behind most of the songs from the first two albums from 2002 to 2005. This was confirmed by Susanne herself on her Facebook page, and by 4 Strings on their Twitter page, with the other vocalists being Nikola Materne and Janson Lunar. It was then revealed that van Hemert only appeared lip-syncing in their live performances and videos between 2002 and 2005, never providing vocals on any of their tracks. Susanne's first official song with 4 Strings was "A Brand New Day", which was released in 2019, and her first live performance was on the festival Tranceformations on 8 February 2020.

Susanne Teutenberg is also known by the name of Susann Gesang ('Singing' or 'Vocals' in German), which she uses for performances at weddings, private parties, and business events.

Biografie

Van Hemert volgde tussen 2000 en 2004 de opleiding Communication en Design Management aan de Hogeschool Inholland in Rotterdam. In diezelfde periode was ze zangeres van het tranceproject4 Strings, dat in 2000 werd opgericht door Carlo Resoort en Jan de Vos. De groep had succes met hun singles "Day Time" (2000) en "Into the Night" (2001) maar brak pas echt door toen de laatste werd voorzien van zang en het een jaar later onder de titel "Take Me Away (Into the Night)" een wereldwijde hit werd. In de jaren daarop volgden onder meer "Diving", "Let it Rain", "Summer Sun" en "Turn it Around", die allen de hitlijsten behaalden in met name Nederland, Groot-Brittannië en Duitsland. In 2004 deden de geruchten de ronde dat Van Hemert de groep zou verlaten, omdat er enkele nummers zouden zijn uitgebracht waarop zij niet te horen was. Hoewel Carlo Resoort de geruchten ontkende, verliet van Hemert de groep in 2005. Later werd ontdekt dat de echte zang werd verzorgd door Susanne Teutenberg, een Duitse studiozangeres. Van Hemert verscheen in muziekvideo's waarin ze zang nabootste op een afspeelzangstem. De single "Sunrise" is de laatste waarop Teutenberg onder de naam Van Hemert te horen is. Daarna is er op muzikaal gebied niets meer van haar vernomen. In 2018 werd Van Hemert gevolgd voor het programma Ik Vertrek waarin zij samen met haar man en twee kinderen emigreert naar Oostenrijk om daar een pension te runnen. Zij wonen daar momenteel nog steeds.
