Formation and success of Aerosmith

In 1969, Tyler met a guitarist named Joe Perry in Sunapee, New Hampshire. In 1970, they met again in Boston and formed Aerosmith with bassist Tom Hamilton. Later, they added a second guitarist, Tyler's childhood friend Ray Tabano (who was quickly replaced by Brad Whitford), and drummer Joey Kramer.

After spending time on the Boston club circuit, under the tutelage of their first manager, Frank Connelly, the band began working with New York managers Steve Leber and David Krebs. The Steven Tyler alive today is very different from the Steven Tyler that rose to fame as lead singer of Aerosmith in the 1970’s. Tyler, also known as the “Demon of Screamin” and half of the “Toxic Twins” duo, has been sober for just over nine years. However, sobriety didn’t come easily or naturally to this infamous rockstar.

After decades of heavy drinking and drug abuse, it took him four attempts to finally get a significant amount of sobriety. When Tyler was initially approached by his bandmates about his addiction problem, he didn’t take them seriously. He thought they were hypocritical and that getting sober would cost him his creativity. However, little did he know that this intervention would be the first of many that would eventually lead him to the light of sobriety.

Before Aerosmith

Tyler has been creative, passionate, and absolutely wild since the day he was born. He was born as Steven Victor Tallarico on March 26, 1948 in Yonkers, New York. Growing up, music was Tyler’s main interest.

And it’s no wonder why! His father, Victor Tallarico, was a professional classical pianist. While Tyler was in school, his father formed a band and allowed Tyler to play the drums. While this was mainly for fun, it was Tyler’s first foray into the music world.

As a teen, Tyler became a huge fan of rock and idolized singers like Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Like many others who struggle with substance abuse, Tyler began using and abusing drugs at a very young age. In fact, he was kicked out of Roosevelt High School in Yonkers for that exact reason.

Steven Victor Tallarico (born March 26, 1948), known professionally as Steven Tyler, is an American singer and songwriter, best known as the lead singer of the Boston-based rock band Aerosmith, in which he also plays the keyboards, harmonica and percussion. He has been called the "Demon of Screamin'" due to his high screams and his powerful wide vocal range. He is also known for his on-stage acrobatics. During his performances, Tyler usually dresses in colorful, sometimes androgynous outfits and makeup with his trademark scarves hanging from his microphone stand.

In the 1970s, Tyler rose to prominence as the lead singer of Aerosmith, which released such hard rock albums as Toys in the Attic and Rocks, along with a string of hit singles, including "Dream On", "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way". During this time, the band embarked on their longest concert tours, promoted their singles with conceptual music videos, and made appearances in television, film and video games.
