  • 18 Best Ways To Redeem South African Airways Voyager Miles for Max Value

South Africa is quite a picturesque vacation spot, located at the southern tip of Africa. Home to some of the best wine in Cape Town and beautiful safari experiences across many ultra-luxurious game reserves throughout the country, there’s something to do for everyone.

The state-owned airline South African Airways, in operation since 1934, has hub airports at O.R. Tambo International in Johannesburg (JNB) and Cape Town International (CPT). It has maintained a boutique airline feel with numerous quirks. Although its fleet size is small, its partner list is quite large.

If you find yourself earning a stack of South African Airways Voyager miles and can’t figure out how to best use them, you’re not alone.

The Pros and Cons of South African Airways Voyager Miles

South African Airways Voyager has some neat attributes that make it an attractive program, provided you can get its miles. This program is unbeatable for intra-Asia premium cabin travel. You can also book Emirates premium cabin awards, though not at the best redemption price. Lastly, there’s tons of value in niche routes, such as between Guam and Asia in economy class.

On the other hand, Voyager can be quite confusing. Its routing rules are obscure, and it has many different award charts, depending on who you fly on.

Lastly, its website is built much like an early dot-com website. You’ll notice that South African Airways Voyager primarily employs a region-based pricing scheme, which leaves quite a bit of room for opportunity.

The 18 Best Ways To Use Your South African Airways Voyager Miles

South African Airways’ frequent flyer program doesn’t get much publicity in the frequent flyer or award travel world.

In fact, Voyager’s website is replete with technical glitches, the award chart is nonsensical for the most part, and there aren’t many ways to transfer points to South African Airways Voyager.

    However, this frequent flyer

    Voyager - South African Airways

South African Airways, headquartered in Airways Park, Ekurheleni Gauteng, is considered the South African largest airline. Partnering with SA Express, SA Airlink, and the low-cost carrier, called Mango, the airline uses a fleet of 54 aircraft and operates about 56 different destinations within South Africa and across the continent, including nine intercontinental routes.

Since its foundation date in 1934, the SAA has been overseen and controlled by South African Railways and Harbours Administration. African countries' sanctions provided stopover airports in the time of apartheid that forced it to obtain a long-range aircraft and take other measures to counter these restrictions. It is known as Suid-Afrikaanse Ludgiens (SAL). A bit later, the name was finally dropped.

    Voyager Program

The Voyager rewards program offers those who fly with South African Airways and their partners numerous ways to go about earning a variety of rewards. Some of the different awards that members can earn in this program include free flights, cabin upgrades, hotel rooms, and even vehicle rentals. There are thousands of Voyager members, and a plethora of benefits associated with the program itself.

    Earning Voyager Points

One of the best things about South African Airways’ Voyager rewards program is that it is very easy to earn points, and there are numerous ways to do so. Members of this program will get 1 mile per each R1.60 spent exclusively on SAA. South African Airways Voyager members can also receive miles when flying with one of the 35 different partners of the airline, including the Star Alliance global network, and over 20 different non-airline partners in categories that range from travel-related, lifestyle, retail, property, petroleum, and financial services.

Both SAA and Star Alliance Miles count towards tier status, so you will therefore be able to use them to work your way up through the various Elite status levels. It is important for m

    Ratings and Reviews

    Utterly disgusting

This is the first time I have ever written a review on anything but this app is so bad I couldn’t stop myself. I have tried on multiple occasions to access the app to access my miles, resetting my password and starting to wonder if it is intentionally designed to be not accessed! Don’t waste your time and not worth the frustration. Is there any way to rate this called “app” as zero stars?

    Designed by an F Student!

    First time reviewing an app
    To the developer:
    Please use the OS keyboard!
I cannot paste text into any of the text fields
I cannot enter the date in the “claim miles” section. It allows me to pick a date (from your custom date selector) but it doesn’t enter the date in the date field! So it’s impossible to enter a date and there cannot use the app to claim for miles!

    Pathetic

I suggest that our friends at SAA copy an app from the likes of Virgin or Singapore Airlines. Whoever is responsible for the latest abortion is clearly not a traveller or have very little experience in development. Nothing about this app was thought through or designed in structure. Find someone qualified to do the job and at least give the users - something that works !

The developer, South African Airways (Proprietary) Limited, indicated that the app’s privacy practices may include handling of data as described below. For more information, see
