Addresses: To celebrate this landmark year, HANSON launched the “Middle Of Everywhere 25th Anniversary World Tour,” alongside a new greatest hits collection of the same name, which included single “I Was Born,” infusing a piece of the future into the year’s reflective projects. The year concluded with a special Christmas album release and tour for the group’s Finally It’s Christmas album, which was among the most successful Christmas releases of The projects were some of HANSON’s most successful of their career, with sold-out concerts in Europe, North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, highlighting their staying power and still strong connection with fans, a quarter century after they began in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As the band embarks on their 26th year performing together they have set their sites on musical projects that break new ground. Echoing the aspirational qualities of the single “I Was Born”, the group is still driven by a sense of purpose and optimism, which imbues every part of their career and continues to attract new and old fans alike. Founded in at ages 11, nine and six, brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac spent their first five years building a fanbase as an independent band in Tulsa, OK, performing both classic rock ‘n’ roll and soul music and their own original material, to form their own unique blend of harmony-driven, soulful pop-rock. This unlikely focus was forged by an early introduction to music from the ’s and early 60’s, with the young brothers citing influences from Aretha Franklin to Otis Redding, The Beatles, Elvis, Little Richard and Chuck Berry. These influences formed the bedrock of their musical inspiration, helping to forge their signature sound which incorporated strong melodies and song craft, as well as reverence for their musical forefathers. After five years and two independent albums, HANSON released their major label debut in , and saw a m Isaac Hanson [centre]: “You cannot underestimate the significance of stubbornness.” It’s safe to say that Hanson have had a pretty incredible Not only is it Isaac, Taylor and Zac’s 25th anniversary as an official group but it is also 20 years since they stormed the charts with their worldwide, career-changing hit MMMBop and its 10 million-selling parent album, Middle Of Nowhere. What better way to round off this year of celebration than with a new festive album and a tour, which hit Manchester on 10 December. We were lucky enough to chat to guitarist, singer and eldest Hanson brother Issac about what this year has meant to them as a band and how they are celebrating now that Finally It’s Christmas. Discover how MMMBop was written Are you excited about this special Christmas tour? “Yeah, we are really excited. Right now we are in the throes of preparation and I think everyone is feeling the inevitable pressure of the last days of rehearsals. It’s one thing to be doing a tour, it’s another to be doing a set of shows that are literally filled with songs, in almost all cases, that we have never actually performed live before. It’s kind of an interesting shift in the dynamic of the show. It’s one of those things, especially when you have been doing this for as long as we have, you’ve got a list of go-to songs that you know you can always pull out. It’s an extra layer of pressure, but it’s good and challenging all at the same time.” It’s such an incredible year for you: your 25th as a band and 20 years since Middle Of Nowhere. How does that make you feel? “We are very proud of what we’ve been able to do. There are obviously plenty of challenges that go along with being a band, whether it be just getting records out and being successful with them, or the band/brother dynamics, but I think weve managed to ge Canadian band This article is about the Canadian punk rock group. For the American pop rock trio, see Hanson (band). For the Slap Shot characters, see Hanson Brothers. The Hanson Brothers were a Canadian punk rock band formed in in Victoria and later based in Vancouver. The group included John and Rob Wright and Tom Holliston, all members of the punk rock band Nomeansno. The Hanson Brothers' band name references characters in the cult ice hockey film Slap Shot. From to , the Wright brothers (John on drums and Rob on bass guitar) and original NoMeansNo guitarist Andy Kerr performed Ramones cover sets sporadically under the name The Hanson Brothers. The Hanson Brothers later began to write "their own Ramones songs" i.e., original songs in the fast, melodic style of the Ramones. At this time John Wright played drums and the three members shared lead vocal duties. Examples of songs from this era are "Ya Little Creep" and "Bad," two Kerr-era NoMeansNo songs with songwriting credited to the Hanson Brothers; the former appears on the compilation Clam Chowder and Ice Vs. Big Macs and Bombers, and the latter on The Sky Is Falling and I Want My Mommy, a collaborative LP with Jello Biafra. The Wrights began working with guitarist Tom Holliston as the Hanson Brothers in The earliest sessions from this time still featured John Wright on drums; however, Ken Jensen of D.O.A. soon joined as the drummer and John Wright devoted himself to the lead vocals. After releasing a debut 7-inch, the band recorded their first album, Gross Misconduct, in The album featured art spoofing the cover of the Ramones' Road to Ruin. Jensen died in a house fire in Ken Kempster (member of, among many other groups, the Showbusiness Giants) became the group's next drummer, referred to as "Kenny Jr" Hanson.
