Trevor sorbie biography of barack

Celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie dies aged 75

Sorbie, who was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, revealed on ITV's This Morning last month that he got his initial diagnosis of bowel cancer after going to the hospital when he lost a lot of blood one night.

The stylist said the cancer had spread to his liver and he had undergone a six-and-a-half-hour operation to remove sections of it, however, his surgeon would no longer operate as it was too close to a major blood vessel.

Sorbie opened his first salon in 1979 in Covent Garden, London, with his company going on to open locations in Brighton, Bristol, Hampstead, Manchester and Richmond.

His team added in the statement that Sorbie's "vision set new standards and continues to inspire generations".

"As we commemorate 45 years of Trevor Sorbie salons, we remain steadfast in upholding the passion, artistry and dedication that he embodied," it added.

"Trevor often reminded us to 'be bold, be different, but always do everything in good taste'. His ethos of kindness, care and excellence continues to guide us.

"He expressed immense pride in our team and confidence in our commitment to carrying forward his legacy."

Trevor Sorbie MBE is our longtime friend and collaborator at Tribu-te Magazine, joining us for countless shows and feature stories over the past 20 years. Last week we made a visit to see him and his wife Carole in their gorgeous home near the south coast of England. Tribu-te Publisher Nicky Pope and hairdresser Charlotte Cave were keen to catch up with the Sorbies and find out what life is like for the famous couple who remain so popular with hairdressers worldwide.

A warm welcome from Carole and Trevor for Charlotte Cave – a self-confessed super fan!

On a frosty December morning, we were invited to peek inside Trevor’s studio where he now spends time drawing and painting. We were also able to browse his trophy cabinet (it’s heaving). Positioned alongside memorabilia of his time in hair, including photographs with Vidal Sassoon and collecting his MBE medal from the Queen Elizabeth II, it is very emotional seeing the display en masse.

Being Trevor Sorbie

Retired from working behind the chair (but still engaged in his creative team projects and charity work), Trevor has a garden studio where he works on his other love: creating art. Chemo treatment had the effect of Trevor losing sensation in his fingertips and forced him to put aside scissors a few years ago. With persistent practice and steely willpower, Trevor has however mastered holding pencils, charcoal and pens so he can return to his very first passion in life – drawing. He practices each day he’s at home and we are impressed by his many framed pictures.

Admiring the large garden, the stunning house decor and a lovable dog, Lisbon, we were beautifully hosted by Trevor and his wife Carole. Over lunch we shared stories and jokes. This was a lovely insight into the day-to-day life of ‘being Trevor Sorbie’ and we apprec

A heartbreaking diagnosis

Trevor revealed his bowel cancer diagnosis in October 2024, which he said led to a "little panic attack".

The celeb snipper, who was married to Carole, revealed on This Morning: "I lost a lot of blood one night and was unusually disturbed so went to hospital.

"They told me I had bowel cancer and I had a little panic attack.

"I looked at Carole and she looked at me, we were both speechless, didn't know what to say.

"So I went and had a big gin and tonic."

The tumour was removed but, sadly, returned despite there only be a 5 per cent chance of his cancer returning.

Eventually, the disease spread to his liver.

In October 2024, he shared on This Morning that he only had "weeks to live" but said he did not want to undergo chemotherapy.

Trevor previously told the Times: "Chemo might give me another month but I can't face any more of that poison.

"When I asked a nurse if I'd still be here at Christmas, she said, 'We don't know, Trevor'."

On Friday, November 8, 2024, Trevor sadly succumbed to his illness.

Signed by 'The Trevor Sorbie Team', a statement released announcing his passing reads: "It is with heartfelt emotion that we share the passing of our esteemed founder, Trevor Sorbie MBE.

"Trevor passed away peacefully with his family and beloved dog by his side.

"Trevor’s journey, marked by unparalleled creativity and kindness, has left an indelible mark on the world of hairdressing and beyond.

"From pioneering The Wedge five decades ago to establishing our first salon in 1979, Trevor’s vision set new standards and continues to inspire generations.
